Welcome to our website. We’re three friends from Saint John making some joyful noise, one gig at a time.
Check out our recent “interview” with a top music magazine.
A: We started out, years ago, as the backing band to a singer-songwriter named Tobias. We were all over six foot tall, so he called his band Tobias & the Tall Cans. (Turns out “tall boys” was already taken.) Anyway, Tobias moved to Japan and we’ve kept doing our thing.
A: Yes. There are tons of great songs out there, and only so many chords. People seem to like hearing stuff they’ve heard before, especially if they’ve not heard it to death. So we try to thread that needle.
A: We have a few yarns. They aren’t recorded. But when people ask for something of our own we can usually put that ball in the air and see what happens. Nobody's thrown anything at us yet...
A: Why not? We think musicians can be a little too uppity about that sort of thing these days. If we know it – or a bit of it – we’ll usually give it a go. Or at least be polite if we can't.
A: It just kind of happened that way. Also, the other guys have lots of notes to play. He mostly goes “boom, thwack.” Gives him lots of time to yell, ideally in key.
A: Officially, yes. But keyboard, saxophone and conga players have been known to wander into the operation from time to time.
A: Absolutely. We’re pretty quick studies and have pulled off some fun things on short notice before. Long notice could only help.
A: We play stuff that makes people dance and sing along, and stick around for another round. We’re pro harmonies, pro stops-and-starts, and generally pro people having a good time.
A: Sure. But we’ll need a gas card and a hook to hang our hats.
A: Good question, tough answer. We’re not really trying to conquer the world. Mostly we’re trying to provide a good night and make everybody’s troubles – including ours – disappear for a couple of hours. Thanks for having us.
